When I ran onto a vehement online argument over which barbecue was better, Truth’s or Pinkerton’s, since I knew Truth’s was damn good, I knew I had to check out Pinkerton’s, and I did. Luckily I got there just before noon, because by the time I had eaten and left, the line was out the door. The clientele seemed to be regulars, although Pinkerton’s is fairly new on the Houston ‘cue scene. Straightforward and efficiently, patrons pass along a line and staff cuts the meat portions to their order, and the cashier is at the end of the line, as is your heavily laden aluminum tray covered with butcher paper…and your meal. Sold by the pound, the following Smoked meats are waiting for you at Pinkerton’s: * Prime brisket * Pulled pork * Pork ribs (glazed or dry rub) * Smoked sausage ( regular or jalapeno or jalapeno cheese) * Boudin * Turkey breast Sandwiches: Pork, turkey, sausage, or brisket, or brisket and pork combo Sides * Potato salad * Cole slaw * Jalapeno cheese rice * South Texas beans * Mac & cheese * Smoked duck & sausage jambalaya * Baked potato * Pulled pork baked potato Dessert * Aunt Ruby’s blueberry cobbler Outdoor seating available, and….don’t ask me to tell you which is better: Truth or Pinkerton’s…they are both damn good.
